Production Lead Times & Delivery Milestones
Clear communication regarding production schedules, dispatch windows, and transit expectations is the cornerstone of reliable supply chain execution.
How Production and Delivery Timelines Are Structured
- Order Confirmation & Tooling Window: Production lead time commences upon receipt of the agreed advance deposit and formal buyer sign-off on technical artwork or prototype samples.
- Factory Production Period: Standard sports goods production cycles range from 15 to 45 business days depending on order volume, material availability (e.g., seasoned English willow vs. synthetic leather), and customization complexity.
- Pre-Shipment Inspection Window: A 3 to 5 day window allocated for final factory quality checks, packaging, carton palletization, and optional third-party surveyor inspection.
- Dispatch & Bill of Lading (B/L) Issuance: Goods are handed over to the contracted freight forwarder or shipping line at the origin dry port (ICD) or seaport.
Recommended Contractual Safeguards for Delivery
- Specify Explicit Incoterms: Clearly designate delivery terms in your purchase agreement (e.g., Ex-Works Factory, FOB Nhava Sheva / Mundra, or CIF Destination Port).
- Define Agreed Lead Times in Writing: Ensure the proforma invoice states: "Factory dispatch within [X] days from artwork and deposit approval."
- Include Reasonable Force Majeure Clauses: Contractually account for unavoidable delays such as raw material shortages, statutory energy curbs, or major maritime transport disruptions.
